Labor Policy |
As we at Camp
Victor Camp Victor move forward with the reconstruction phase
of recovery, the need for volunteers with skilled
trades becomes immense. During the cleanup phase,
willing hearts and hands were enough to be
productive, but reconstruction brings with it many
details and complications that cleanup did not
have. It is for this reason that we are asking
groups to bring one skilled volunteer for every
five unskilled. This skilled volunteer should be
capable of leading and teaching others to form an
effective work crew in at least one area of
reconstruction.
In addition, we are recommending that
unskilled volunteers explore ways of receiving
training before arrival in Ocean Springs. One
option is to contact your local Home Depot or
Lowe’s home improvement stores about work
clinics. Many of these stores regularly hold
clinics in home improvement areas, and there’s a
decent chance that they will be offering one in
drywall, flooring ,roofing, etc. before your
trip. In addition, if you share your vision and
mission they may be willing to set up a clinic in
one of those areas. In fact, we recommend sharing
your vision and mission with as many people as
possible since large home improvement chains
aren’t the only resource for learning trade
skills.
If clinics are simply not a possibility, we
suggest purchasing or renting a video on the basic
skills of a specific trade. |
