The most visible part of our ministry is our rebuilding program, which has assisted thousands of Mississippians with cleaning and repairing their homes after Hurricane Katrina.  All our rebuilds go through intensive case management and evaluation, ensuring our labor and materials are used wisely.  Still, the efforts of our staff would be lost without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers.  With their help we have been able to:

¨ Cleanup and rebuild over 1,900 homes

¨ Provide basic food and home supplies to more than 28,900 families.

¨ House over 15,000 volunteers

¨ Serve over 225,000 meals to volunteers

¨ Complete over 600,000 hours of volunteer labor worth approx. $12 million

Camp Victor operates as a community.  As such, volunteers are asked to help out with the maintenance of camp facilities including the bathrooms, showers, dorms, lounge, dining hall, warehouse and tool crib.  We ask every volunteer to be flexible and willing to help with serving meals, cleaning, organization of supplies in our warehouse, cooking meals for other volunteers and even building new structures within camp such as dorms.

Most volunteers work on rebuilding homes in Jackson County.  On a project site volunteers may find themselves working on a variety of tasks including, but not limited to: framing, insulating, hanging and finishing drywall, roofing, painting interior and exterior walls, installing trim and molding, moving debris or furniture, landscaping, etc.  Although it is not necessary for every person in your group to be skilled at construction, the week tends to be more enjoyable and productive with at least a few skilled construction leaders to guide and teach other volunteers on site.
