Our Story |
|
Within days of Hurricane Katrina, Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, became a hurricane disaster response center for communities along the Gulf Coast. During the months that followed Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the church's walls were stretched to accommodate many activities. The staff held regular services and activities, ran a distribution center, provided case management, ran a free medical clinic, and housed and fed thousands of volunteers. In June 2006, we moved our operations to Camp Victor. What was once an old Swingster sewing factory became a disaster relief volunteer camp and the larger space allowed us to consolidate all our departments under one roof. In September 2007, we became Camp Victor Ministries to better reflect our expanded mission. We currently operate under the auspices of Lutheran Episcopal Services in Mississippi. Lutheran Episcopal Services in Mississippi is a collaborative social ministry of the Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, the Southern District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, and the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi. Camp Victor Ministries intends to continue assisting local residents in the clean-up, repair, and reconstruction of damaged homes for years to come. Your support will help us to continue with our mission. |
